‘We know how to sew because we never stopped.’
Only a handful of textile companies survived the 1990s. Those that remained can hold their own against Asian competition, and a new generation of brands has grown up on their craft.
Five hundred years of craftCzechtex is an independent initiative of Czech textile companies. Manufacturing drives the industry: every order we bring to the Czech Republic creates work for workshops, suppliers, designers and those still learning the craft.

Roughly 5–8 weeks from order to warehouse; shipping anywhere in the EU takes 1–2 days. If we start with development and sampling, add time for approvals. The configurator on the Manufacturing page shows the timing for your project.
The price per piece depends on materials, components, the complexity of the pattern and, above all, the quantity. We send the first quote once the materials are selected and the sample is sewn, when it is clear exactly what we are making.
An idea, some inspiration or a finished pattern is enough. If you have a tech pack and a sample, we can skip development. If you have nothing yet, we can help with design, pattern making and the size range.

The best survived
‘We know how to sew because we never stopped.’
Only a handful of the thousand or so post-war textile companies survived the 1990s. Firms such as TONAK, PLEAS and Modeta had to learn overnight to sell without guaranteed demand, compete with cheap Asian production and find their own place in the market. After the consolidation of a smaller industry, the companies left in Czech textiles today are the ones that passed this test.
The same Czech roots also gave rise to a new generation of manufacturing brands such as CityZen, TIMO, KAMA, Vasky and KALAS — proof that a craft which supported entire regions for two hundred years never really disappeared.
Garments made a few hours from customers anywhere in the EU do not have to be ordered months in advance.
A short lead time does not just mean ‘faster’ — it means you can plan production for a specific season rather than a forecast made six months earlier. A long lead time ties up capital in transit for extra weeks and forces you to order more pieces than you can be sure of selling — the risk of delays rules out relying on last-minute top-ups. All of this applies at once, and is multiplied by high minimum order quantities.

Brands and companies across Europe are moving production closer to the markets where they sell — and in this shift the Czech Republic sits in the middle of the EU, not on its edge.
The rest comes from Asia. Its nearby suppliers are mainly in Spain, Portugal, Morocco and Turkey.

Timing varies with the type and complexity of the product.
Timings are indicative. You will receive an exact schedule after the initial consultation, based on quantity, material and how quickly samples are approved.
Before production starts, you know how we will assess quality and what happens if something is not right.
We sew the bulk run to the sample you have approved in writing. It is the shared benchmark for the whole order: pattern, material, measurements and workmanship.
We compare the first pieces of the run with the approved sample and check measurements and seams throughout sewing. We catch deviations before they spread.
We inspect finished pieces before dispatch. The scope of inspection, for example to the international AQL standard, is agreed in advance.
If something is not right, you will hear it from us first. Together we agree on a repair, re-sewing or replacement and a new date.
We do not assign orders blindly. We choose manufacturers based on what your product actually needs. One coordinator is responsible for the entire order.
We buy materials from vetted European suppliers. On request, we source materials certified to OEKO-TEX Standard 100, made from organic cotton or recycled fibres, with supporting documents for your records.
You know what the product is made of and where it was made. That matters to your customers and for the new EU textile rules.
Overseas production looks cheaper on the invoice. But the real cost also includes the money and goods waiting for the order.
With overseas production you often pay for the whole order upfront, and the money spends weeks at sea. A shorter lead time means it comes back to you sooner.
A smaller first run, from 150 pcs depending on the product, reduces the risk of ending up with a full warehouse in the sale.
Whatever sells, you can reproduce within a few weeks. No need to forecast the whole season six months ahead.
By truck anywhere in the EU in 1–2 days, with no duties or customs clearance. No waiting for a container and no delays in port.
The price per piece depends on materials, components, the complexity of the pattern and, above all, the quantity. A flat rate would be either inflated or untrue.
So we start with a short discussion of your brief. We send the first quote once the materials are selected and the sample is sewn, when it is clear exactly what we are making.
